X-PRO Dirt Bikes, Pit Bikes, Kids' ATVs and Go Karts

An X-PRO dirt bike on Amazon US is most often a 125cc gas pit bike with 14-inch and 12-inch wheels, but the lineup runs from the 60cc Hawk 60 to 250cc full-size bikes, plus two electric models, kids' ATVs and go karts. Pick by the rider's size and the clutch type before the engine. Fair warning: X-PRO names its colors like paint chips. Spider Pink and Hot Rod Flame are both in the grid.

What X-PRO makes

X-PRO, sold as XProUSA, is a powersports brand. Its own about page describes XProUSA as an online retailer of ATVs, dirt bikes, go karts, mopeds and motorcycles for kids and adults. The same page says it keeps a stock of parts for the vehicles it sells and provides original parts for most of its products.

In our Amazon US data, the X-PRO lineup splits into five types:

The grid above lists them all. Some models show up several times, often in different colors. The X9 125 has three listings, and the Drax Lite has three. Read the title to the end before comparing.

X-PRO pit bikes and dirt bikes

The gas bikes, smallest first:

Notice how many are 125cc. The engine number doesn't separate them. The transmission and the wheels do.

Transmission: the line that matters most for a new rider

X-PRO's 125s come in three flavors:

A new rider has enough to think about with the throttle and two brakes. Each control you take away is one less thing to get wrong in the first hour. A manual clutch is a fine second-bike skill.

Wheels and seat height

Only one X-PRO bike in our data lists a seat height: 28 inches on the 110cc. For the rest, the wheels are the size clue. A 14/12 bike is a pit-bike size. A 17/14 is a step taller. A 21/18 is a full-size dirt bike, and the 250s are built that way. Get the manual's seat height before you buy any of them, and stand the rider next to a tape measure.

Who suits the 110cc and the 14/12 125s: smaller riders who fit the manual's limits, with an adult watching. Who suits the 250s: experienced, full-size riders. Who should skip the 250s: any rider who can't sit with both feet down.

For pit bikes from every maker, see pit bikes.

X-PRO electric dirt bikes

The two are very different machines. The Drax Lite has small wheels and speed modes; the low 6 mph mode is where a new rider starts. The E-Hawk is listed for ages 13+, and its listing gives a high top speed, so it's a teen-and-adult bike by its own numbers.

Who suits the Drax Lite: a rider who fits the manual's limits and a family that wants no fuel in the garage. Who should skip the E-Hawk: anyone under its listed 13+, and any new rider who hasn't learned throttle and brakes on something smaller. For more electric bikes, see Hiboy.

X-PRO kids' ATVs

The quads in our data:

A remote engine cut-off lets an adult stop the engine from a distance. On a kids' quad, that's worth reading for.

The American Academy of Pediatrics' HealthyChildren.org says children under 16 should not operate an ATV, that 12- to 15-year-olds who ride should be on youth models, and that most ATVs are built for one rider only. It also says riders should wear a motorcycle-style helmet every ride. Read that next to any listed age.

X-PRO go karts

Every gas X-PRO kart in our data lists reverse:

And one electric: the E-Ranger, 1000W, 60V 20Ah, 330 lb max weight, rear disc plus foot brake.

The orange 125cc kart is the only X-PRO kart in our data that lists an age range: 7 to 16. The Rover 125 and E-Ranger list weight limits. For the others, the manual is the source. A second seat on the Rover 110 is for a second rider who meets the same limits and wears the same gear.

Reverse on every gas kart is a useful pattern. A kart that can back up can turn around in a yard without anyone pushing it, and that keeps hands away from a warm engine and a moving chain. Electric start on most of them means no pull cord. Between the two, the adult's job shifts from muscle to supervision, which is where it should be.

For karts from every maker, see go karts and off-road go karts.

The California note

Several X-PRO listings say they cannot be sold to California: the Titan 250, Titan DLX 250, Templar X 250, two Storm 125 listings, a Lynx 125 and the Ranger 150. CARB's own page says off-highway recreational vehicles sold in California need its certification. That's a listing note and a state rule. Read it before anything else if you live there.

Some assembly required

Many X-PRO listings in our data say "some assembly required", from the 110cc pit bike to the Ranger 125 kart. The listings don't say which parts go on at home. Ask the seller before you order, and plan for a crate, a free afternoon and the owner's manual open on the tailgate.

Marisol read a few X-PRO titles over my shoulder, saw Spider Pink, Leaf Pink and Hot Rod Flame, and asked whether they come with paint codes. They don't. She wrote them down anyway.

Before the first ride, go over every bolt, the brakes, the throttle return, the chain and the tire pressure, with the manual open. X-PRO's about page says it keeps parts in stock for the vehicles it sells, so note your model and listing for later.

How to pick within X-PRO

  1. Get the manual's age, height and weight limits. Most listings don't state them.
  2. Pick the type: bike, quad or kart.
  3. Pick the transmission: automatic or semi-automatic for a new rider; manual clutch later.
  4. Pick the size by wheels and seat height: 10-inch or 14/12 for small riders, 17/14 for taller, 21/18 for full size.
  5. Check the California note if it applies to you.
  6. Add the helmet and riding gear to the same order, sized to the rider.

Safety, every ride

Riders need a properly fitted helmet made for motorized riding, plus gloves, boots, eye protection and long sleeves and pants. Follow the maker's age, height and weight limits, and keep an adult watching every ride. The CPSC's helmet chart lists a motocross or motorcycle helmet for ATV, dirt- and mini-bike riding, and a karting or motorcycle helmet for go-karting.

Refuel outdoors with the engine off and cool, and store fuel in an approved container away from the house. Never run an engine in a garage or any closed space. The CPSC says to keep gas cans in a cool, well-ventilated place, never inside the house.

For the electric models: charge with the charger that came with it, on a hard surface, and follow the maker's charging instructions.

Rules for riding mini bikes, pit bikes and go karts vary by state and town. Check yours, and ride only where it's allowed.

Read the transmission line first. The color name can wait.

Questions about X-PRO

What size X-PRO dirt bike should I get?

Go by the rider, not the engine. In our data, the Hawk 60 has 10-inch wheels; the 110cc and most 125cc pit bikes have 14-inch front and 12-inch rear; the X9 and X19 have 17 and 14; the 250s have 21 and 18. Only one listing gives a seat height, 28 inches on the 110cc. Get the manual's age, height and weight limits.

Is an X-PRO pit bike good for a beginner?

We answer with what the listings show, not a verdict. The beginner-friendly features are an automatic or semi-automatic transmission, electric start and small wheels. In our data, the Hawk 60 lists a CVT and electric start, and the Storm 125 and Bolt 125 list automatic versions. The Lynx 125 and X9 125 list a manual clutch and kick start.

Can X-PRO dirt bikes be sold in California?

Several X-PRO listings in our data state they cannot be sold to California, including the Titan 250, Templar X 250, Storm 125, Lynx 125 and Ranger 150. The California Air Resources Board says off-highway recreational vehicles sold in California need its certification. If you're in California, read the note on each listing first.

Who sells X-PRO?

X-PRO's own about page describes XProUSA as an online retailer of powersports products: ATVs, dirt bikes, go karts, mopeds and motorcycles for kids and adults. It says the company keeps a stock of parts for the vehicles it sells and provides original parts for most of its products. The page doesn't give a founding year or location.

What age is an X-PRO ATV for?

Most X-PRO ATV listings in our data don't state an age. The 40cc Kids Gas ATV 4-Stroke lists ages 6+. The American Academy of Pediatrics' HealthyChildren.org says children under 16 should not operate an ATV. Read that guidance with the listing and the manual's limits before you decide.

What is the X-PRO Drax Lite?

The Drax Lite is an X-PRO electric dirt bike. Its listings state a 1200W motor, a 48V 10.4Ah lithium-ion battery, 10-inch wheels, dual disc brakes and three speed modes; one listing gives them as 6, 15 and 25 mph. Our data shows three Drax Lite listings and no stated rider age, so get the manual's limits first.
