Spin Master Games: The Board Game and Card Game Lineup

Spin Master's games line is wide: 77 live listings on Amazon US in our data, from a tic-tac-toe board for ages 5+ to a 60-minute zombie strategy game. The Spin Master games list sorts into a few clear groups: guessing games like Hedbanz, Giant Editions of classic games, wooden classics and dominoes, word and trivia games, adult party boxes, and kids' games. I sorted it into those six piles on paper first. Five piles came out even. Dominoes got a pile of their own, which felt right.

What Spin Master makes

Spin Master games in our Amazon US data cover nearly every kind of game our board games section tracks. The line has 77 live listings across these types:

That's a long list for one maker. The quickest way through it is by what you want the table to do on a Saturday: guess, race, think, laugh, or teach a classic. The grid above shows every live listing; the notes below group them.

Spin Master games, line by line

Hedbanz and guessing games

Hedbanz has five listings in our data: the original (ages 7+), the 3rd Edition, Hedbanz Lightspeed (6+, 2–6 players, electronic), the Hedbanz Family Game (6+, 2–6), and a Hedbanz Harry Potter Wizarding World 2022 Edition (2–4). The editions differ by age, player count and whether there's an electronic part.

Disney in Character (8+, 2–4) is another guessing game. Funscripted (13+) is a party game for teens and up.

Guessing games suit a mixed-age family where the youngest can read a picture card. Skip them if your group gets quiet when put on the spot; these are loud on purpose.

Giant Editions

Four listings are Giant Editions of classic games: Clue Giant Edition (2–4 players), Candy Land Giant Edition (2–4), Guess Who? Giant Edition (2) and Left Center Right Giant Edition (6+, 3 or more players). Our data doesn't give board sizes, so check the listing for dimensions.

A giant game changes where you play, not how. It moves the game from the table to the floor or the yard. That's useful for a classroom, a birthday party or a porch. It's less useful in a small apartment. Measure the floor before you measure the fun. Our Clue, Candy Land and Guess Who pages cover the regular editions.

Classics: Othello, Mancala, Four in a Row and the wooden sets

Spin Master lists several two-player classics:

For a shelf that holds several games at once, there's the Cardinal Classics 10-Game Classic Game House (ages 8+, wood), a Chess, Checkers and Backgammon set, and a Harry Potter Trunk of 6 Classic Games (8+, 2–4) with checkers, dice, chess, backgammon, dominoes and pick-up wands in a wooden trunk. Our Othello and mancala pages cover how each plays.

Chess sets

The chess listings run from learning sets to display sets: Chess Made Simple, the Cardinal Classics Chess Teacher (8+), the Legacy Deluxe Chess & Checkers Set with wood pieces and a folding wood board, a Color Classics Chess Set (8+, wood board), and a Disney Villains Chess Set (8+). See our chess sets page for what to look for in pieces and boards.

Dominoes and mahjong

This is where the listings differ most by numbers, and the numbers matter:

Here's my one opinion on this page: buy a classic game by its components list, not by the picture on the lid. A double-6 set has the fewest tiles. Mexican Train is usually played with a double-12 set, and the train markers matter too: the Yellowstone listing includes themed trains, while the Double 12 set with racks lists racks and a tin instead. The lid photo can look the same either way. Our dominoes page explains which games each set plays.

Two mahjong listings round this out: Mahjong Classic 152 Tiles and a Mahjong Tile Set in a carrying case.

Word games

Upwords lists ages 8+, 1–4 players and a solo mode. Upwords Rotating Board lists 3–6 players. Less is More (8+, 3–6) is a card-based word game. Word games suit a table with a reader or two who like a slower turn. Skip them for a group where the youngest is still sounding out words.

Trivia and party games

Spin Master's trivia and party listings in our data include:

Beat the Parents is set up as kids against adults, which tells you who it's for. The title also tells you how the box expects it to end. Our trivia games and party games pages compare these with other makers' boxes.

Adults-only boxes

Four listings state adult ages: MASH (17+, 2–4, 300 Fate Cards and 40 Scenario Cards), IYKYK How Well Do You Know Your Friends (18+, 2–6), Where on the Scale? (18+) and Chug O' War Tumbling Tower (21+, a drinking game, 4 or more). These are for grown-up tables only. Read the age line before the box goes in a family gift bag.

Strategy games

The strategy end of the line includes Marvel Zombies: Zombicide (1–4 players, 60 minutes) and Dceased: Zombicide (14+, 1–4), Escaping Extinction (12+, 1–4, solo mode), Crash (2–6), Sheriff of Nottingham Disney (10+, 3–5), DC United Super Heroes: Batman Hush (14+, 1–5) and Marvel Comic Hunters (14+, 1–4). Several list a solo or one-player count. Our strategy board games page covers the category.

Kids' games

For younger players the listings include Disney Princess Treats & Sweets (4+, 2–4), Bluey Splash Time (4+, 2–4), Snack-O-Saurus Rex (5+, 2–4), Shark Strike Bowling (5+, 2–4, dexterity), Harry Potter Serpents & Staircases (5+, 1–4), Bellz. (6+, 1–4, dexterity, solo mode), Suspend (6+, 1–4), HERSHEY'S S'mores Perfectly Toasted (6+, 3–6, 25 minutes), Barrel of Monkeys Classic, and Disney The Little Mermaid Sea Adventure (2–4). Licensed titles are named here as the listings name them.

Jumanji and other licensed titles

Jumanji appears as Jumanji: The Game 30th Anniversary (2–4, roll-and-move), the Jumanji 30th Anniversary Edition (8+, 2–4) and a Jumanji Card Game (7+, 2–5, press-your-luck). Our Jumanji page compares them. Other licensed titles include Tetris: The Board Game (8+, 2–4), Fuggler (8+, 3–6, dice), Dumb Ways to Die (12+, 2–5) and Dumb Ways to Die: Wheel of Pain (2–6).

The card shuffler

The Cardinal Classics Automatic Card Shuffler is the one non-game in the list. Lucho saw it on the table and said, "A machine that does one job and doesn't argue about it. I'd hire it at the shop." He then shuffled by hand anyway, to prove a point nobody had raised.

Spin Master games by stated age

The listings state a starting age on most boxes. Here's the line sorted by that number, using only ages from our data. A box belongs to a child at or above its first number.

Several listings, including Othello Classic and the Giant Editions of Clue, Candy Land and Guess Who?, don't state an age in our data. Read the box or listing for those.

Sam is 7. He read this list, found his line, and asked why 7+ is shorter than 6+. I told him it's because the 6+ games are still his too. He's taking that as a raise.

How to pick a Spin Master game

  1. Start with the youngest player's age. The listings run from 4+ to 21+, and the low number is the one that matters.
  2. Count your usual table. Two-player classics, 2–4 family games, and 3–10 party games are all in this line.
  3. Pick the kind of evening. Guessing, trivia, a classic, a quiet strategy game, or a floor game.
  4. For classics, read the components. Tiles, stones, tokens and boards are listed; the lid photo isn't a spec.

Small parts and electronic games

Check the age label on the listing. Toys with small parts are a choking hazard for children under 3. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission bans small parts in products meant for children under 3, and requires a choking-hazard warning on some products with small parts or marbles. Games with dominoes, stones, tokens and marbles belong on a high shelf when a toddler is around.

Hedbanz Lightspeed and Murder Phone are listed as electronic; check the listing for what powers them. Button batteries can cause serious injury if swallowed. Keep spares locked away and check that battery covers are screwed shut.

Read the youngest age on the box first. The rest of the list will sort itself out.
