Iron Studios Statues: MiniCo, Art Scale and Legacy Replica

Iron Studios makes statues, and the line name tells you the size. MiniCo is the small, stylized line. Art Scale 1/10 is the detailed mid-size line, with BDS dioramas inside it. Legacy Replica 1/4 is the big one. Pick the line by the shelf you have, then pick the character. With Iron Studios statues the only real question is space. That's my favorite kind of figure homework: one question long, with a tape measure for an answer.

What Iron Studios makes

Iron Studios makes statues: posed figures on a base that don't move. In our data the Iron Studios catalog is almost all statues and busts, with a vinyl set and one action figure listing. The lines on Amazon US are MiniCo, Art Scale 1/10, BDS Art Scale 1/10 and Legacy Replica 1/4, the same line names Iron Studios uses on its own site.

The licensed lines named on the listings come from movies, comics, games and TV: Marvel, DC Comics, The Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, Jurassic Park, Mortal Kombat, One Piece, Saint Seiya and more. Here they're listing names only. What you're choosing is a line and a size.

The grid above shows Iron Studios listings first. Below I walk the lines from small to big.

Iron Studios statues by line

Iron Studios statues sort cleanly by line, and each line is a different shelf decision.

MiniCo: the small, stylized line

MiniCo is the biggest group in our data. The listings include MiniCo statues of Frodo and Gollum from The Lord of the Rings, Captain America from Avengers Endgame, Cyclops, Psylocke, Magneto and Deadpool from X-Men, Vision from WandaVision, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (40th Anniversary), Blue from Jurassic Dominion, Sub-Zero from Mortal Kombat, Darth Vader from Star Wars, Wolverine and Deadpool from Deadpool & Wolverine, a Gambit and Wolverine pair from X-Men '97, three Fantastic Four characters, and Superman and Krypto.

The titles call them vinyl or PVC statues. One X-Men MiniCo Deadpool listing gives a height, 15 cm, which is about 5.9 inches. The rest don't state a height, so use the photos and that one number as a guide.

Who it suits: someone with a desk, a bookshelf or a narrow ledge. A MiniCo statue is built to sit where a big statue can't. Most MiniCo listings sit in the lowest two price tiers of our data, so this is the entry-level line.

Who should skip: someone who wants a statue that looks like a scene from across the room. MiniCo is stylized and small. That's the design.

Art Scale 1/10: the mid-size line

Art Scale 1/10 is the detailed line. Our data lists Art Scale 1/10 statues of the Power Rangers Blue Ranger (7 inches, the one with a stated height), an Armored Orc from The Lord of the Rings, Beetlejuice from Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (15+ on the listing), Monkey D. Luffy from One Piece, Red Hulk from Captain America: Brave New World, Captain Planet, Lobo, Human Torch and The Thing from Fantastic Four, Aquarius Camus from Saint Seiya, Superman and Krypto, Luke and Leia from Star Wars, and Raphael from the TMNT movie.

Here's the 1/10 math, run backward from the one listing that states a height. The Blue Ranger is 7 inches. Times ten, that's 70 inches, a character a little under 5 foot 10. So a 1/10 statue of a person-sized character lands around 7 inches, and bigger characters and bases come out bigger.

Who it suits: someone with a real shelf, at least the depth of a base, who wants one character to look sharp. Who should skip: someone with five MiniCo statues on a ledge expecting an Art Scale to join the row. It won't fit the row. It'll start its own.

BDS Art Scale: dioramas

BDS listings are Art Scale 1/10 statues built as larger scenes. Our data has the Thor Infinity Gauntlet Diorama BDS Art Scale 1/10. A diorama is a statue with a setting, so the base is part of the scene, not just a stand. Plan for depth.

Legacy Replica 1/4: the big one

Legacy Replica is the 1/4 line, the largest in our data. We list one: the Marvel Deadpool Legacy Replica Art Scale 1/4. It sits in the highest price tier of any Iron Studios listing we track.

The math again, with the same 70-inch character: a quarter of it is 17.5 inches. Before the base. Theo did that one before I finished the sentence. "One-tenth to one-quarter is two and a half times taller," he said. "I'd give partial credit for 'way bigger', but only partial." He grades homework all week. He doesn't stop on Saturdays.

Who it suits: one collector, one corner, one statue. Who should skip: anyone who hasn't already picked the corner.

Other Iron Studios listings

A few listings don't fit the lines above. There's a Jurassic Park T-Rex Attack Statue, a Mortal Kombat: Scorpion vs. Sub-Zero Arcade MiniCo 1:10 Vinyl Set, a MiniCo PVC Batman on Bat Signal (Blue Variant) whose title also says Art Scale 1/10, and an Iron Studios IS19419 Action Figures listing for Avengers: Endgame that gives no other details. Read those titles slowly.

How to pick an Iron Studios statue

My one opinion for this page: if you've never owned a statue, start with a MiniCo. Our data shows the same characters in both lines, for example Human Torch and Superman and Krypto each appear as a MiniCo and as an Art Scale 1/10. So you can pick the character you want, live with the small one first, and know the bigger version exists. MiniCo also has the smallest footprint and sits in the lowest tiers.

Here's the rest of the checklist:

  1. Line name. MiniCo, Art Scale 1/10, BDS diorama or Legacy Replica 1/4. That's size.
  2. Shelf depth. Statues need room for the base. Measure front to back.
  3. Height, where listed. The Blue Ranger lists 7 inches; the X-Men MiniCo Deadpool lists 15 cm.
  4. Version. Variants like "Blue Suit Version" or "Blue Variant" change paint, not size.
  5. Age. Beetlejuice lists 15+. Most others don't say.
  6. Seller. Big statues ship in big boxes. Read who's shipping it.

Here's my shelf math for statues, the one time I'll say it on this page: height tells you if it fits under the shelf above, depth tells you if it fits at all. A statue that overhangs the edge isn't on the shelf. It's on its way down.

Mixing lines on one shelf

MiniCo and Art Scale don't share a row well. MiniCo is stylized, with bigger heads and simpler shapes. Art Scale is proportioned to scale. Next to each other, they look like two different families at the same picnic. Give each line its own shelf, or its own end of one.

If you're mixing makers, keep scale in mind. A 1/10 statue from Iron Studios and a 1/10 statue from another maker are the same scale, so they'll stand together. Our statues page lists statues across makers by scale and height, and our figures section has pages for Kotobukiya, First 4 Figures, Beast Kingdom and Diamond Select Toys.

Vinyl, PVC and what the titles say

Iron Studios titles name the material more often than they name a height. Our data has MiniCo listings titled "Vinyl Statue" (the Lord of the Rings, Avengers Endgame and X-Men ones) and newer ones titled "MiniCo PVC" (Deadpool & Wolverine, Mortal Kombat, Fantastic Four, Star Wars). Both are plastics, and the titles don't say more than the word. The switch from one word to the other shows up in the newer listings, so it's partly a way to tell an older MiniCo from a newer one.

For a shelf, the material matters less than the line. A vinyl MiniCo and a PVC MiniCo are the same size class and the same style. Where it does matter is dust. Both pick it up the same way, so plan a soft brush and a spot away from the garage door, where the wind brings the desert in every time the door goes up.

Variants and repeat characters

Iron Studios lists the same character more than once, in different lines and different paint. Our data shows:

That's useful if you're buying a gift. If someone already owns a character, the line name and the version name tell you whether you're buying them a second copy or a different piece. Ask which line they collect before you ask which character.

Who Iron Studios suits, and who should skip it

Iron Studios suits a collector who wants display pieces, not toys. Nothing in the lines above is made to be played with or re-posed. It also suits someone who likes a clear size system: three line names cover nearly the whole catalog.

Skip it if you want a figure you can change every week. A posable figure line is a better fit, and our figures section explains the difference. Skip the bigger lines if you rent, move often or have kids who climb shelves. A statue is a commitment to one spot.

Statue boxes and the casita

A statue box is the one box I don't argue about keeping. Statues travel best in the foam they came in, and if you ever move a statue, you'll want that foam back. My tía saw a big statue box come in once and asked if I was moving out. I told her no, the box was. It moved into the closet.

Small parts

Check the age label on the listing. Toys with small parts are a choking hazard for children under 3. Statues aren't toys, but many have small separate pieces like weapons, capes or effect parts, so keep those off the floor and away from young children.

Iron Studios facts we could confirm

Iron Studios' own site uses the line names MiniCo, Art Scale 1/10, BDS Art Scale 1/10 and Legacy Replica 1/4 in its product names, which matches what Amazon US shows. We couldn't confirm founding details or ownership from a first-party page, so they're not on this page.

MiniCo for the desk, Art Scale for the shelf, Legacy for the corner you already cleared.

Questions about Iron Studios

Are Iron Studios statues good?

We don't give makers a grade. What the data shows: Iron Studios listings on Amazon US are almost all statues, sold in clear line names (MiniCo, Art Scale 1/10, Legacy Replica 1/4). Few listings state a height or an age, so check the photos and the line name, and read the seller line. A line name you understand is worth more than a photo you squint at.

What is Iron Studios MiniCo?

MiniCo is Iron Studios' small statue line, used as a line and shop category on the maker's own site. In our Amazon data, MiniCo listings include vinyl and PVC statues from movie, comic and game lines, and most sit in the lower price tiers. One listing names its height, 15 cm, which is about 5.9 inches. It's the entry-level way into the brand.

What does Art Scale 1/10 mean?

It means the statue is made at one-tenth the size of the character. Our data has the Power Rangers Blue Ranger 1/10 statue listed at 7 inches, which works back to a character about 70 inches tall. Iron Studios uses Art Scale 1/10 in many product names on its site, BDS Art Scale listings are 1/10 dioramas with larger scenes.

What's the difference between MiniCo and Art Scale?

Size and style. MiniCo is Iron Studios' small, stylized line, with simpler shapes, and most MiniCo listings sit in the lower price tiers of our data. Art Scale 1/10 is proportioned to one-tenth of the character's size, about 7 inches for a person-sized character, with more detail and a larger base. Several characters appear in both lines, so you can choose the size first.

Where can I buy Iron Studios statues?

This page links to Iron Studios listings on Amazon US. Read the seller line and the delivery estimate on each one, since statues often come from specialty sellers and larger ones ship in big boxes. Iron Studios also sells through its own site. Check the line name in the title before you compare two listings that look alike.
