Hiya Toys Figures: Exquisite Mini, Basic and Super

Hiya Toys makes action figures in three main series, and the series name tells you the size. Exquisite Mini is 1/18, roughly 4 to 5 inches in our listings. Exquisite Super is 1/12, about 6 to 6.5 inches. Exquisite Basic is mostly non-scale, with the big monster figures standing 6 to 7 inches. Read the inches on the listing before the character name. Four and a half inches, by the way, is the height of my coffee mug. I checked it against the mug. The mug didn't mind.

What Hiya Toys makes

Hiya Toys makes posable action figures, plus a few PVC figures and statues. Hiya's site says the company was established in 2009 and makes collectible action figures. In our data almost every Hiya listing is a posable action figure, sorted into three series: Exquisite Mini, Exquisite Basic and Exquisite Super. A couple of listings are Stylist Series PVC figures and statues that hold one pose.

The licensed lines named on the listings include Alien, Aliens, Predator, RoboCop, Godzilla, Kong, Judge Dredd, The Walking Dead and others. Here they're listing names only. What matters for your shelf is the series and the height.

The grid above shows Hiya listings first. Below I go series by series.

Hiya Toys by series

Hiya's own site puts it plainly: Exquisite Mini is 1/18, Exquisite Super is 1/12, Exquisite Basic is mostly non-scale with some 1/12 figures. That one sentence sorts the whole catalog.

Exquisite Mini 1/18: about 4 to 5 inches

This is the biggest group in our data. The Mini listings include the Alien Ripley and Kane spacesuit figures (4.2 and 4.3 inches, each with a blaster), Alien Resurrection The Newborn (5.3 inches) and Lead Alien Warrior (5.1 inches, figure stand), the Aliens Alien Warrior Blue (4.5 inches, window box), the AVP Battle Damage Alien Queen (7 inches, the tall one in the series), a Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022) Leatherface (4.72 inches, 15 joints, interchangeable hands) and a Judge Dredd Judge Mortis Black and White (16 joints).

There's also an older group titled "Hiya Toys 1:18" without the Exquisite name: RoboCop from RoboCop 2 (4.5 inches, data probe hand and pistol), three Aliens warriors at 4.5 inches, the Alien 3 Dog Alien and Look Up Dog Alien, Dallas from Alien (4 inches, headlamp, torch, removable helmet, stand), the Jungle Predator (Version 2) at 4 inches and a Battle Damaged ED-209 at 5.5 inches.

Who it suits: someone with a narrow shelf who wants a whole cast, not one hero. A 1/18 figure fits a lot of friends on one board. Many of the Mini listings sit in the lowest price tier of our data, which makes them the entry-level way into the brand.

Who should skip: someone who wants cloth outfits and a big box of hands. At 4 inches, the accessory list is short. Blaster, stand, maybe a hand.

Exquisite Basic: the big monsters

Exquisite Basic is where the giant-monster figures live. In our data that's Godzilla from Godzilla: King of the Monsters (26 joints), Mothra (11 joints, flying display base), Godzilla vs. Kong's Godzilla (7 inches), the GMK (2001) and 2000: Millennium Godzillas (7 inches each), a translucent Godzilla (2014) at 6.3 inches with a heat ray effect, Scylla (6 inches), King Ghidorah Battle Damaged Version, the Heat Ray Godzilla Hokkaido Ver. and the Evolved Ver. (7.1 inches each), and three Kong listings at 6 to 6.2 inches with swap hands and heads.

Two Basic listings aren't monsters: the EBP0228 Queen (5.7 inches, 15+ on the listing, seven interchangeable hands and a pile of accessories) and the EBG0241 Kong (15+, translucent battle axe, three pairs of hands). The Evolved Ver. Godzilla lists 18+.

Who it suits: a collector who wants one big figure as the center of a shelf. A 7-inch monster is a centerpiece. It doesn't need friends.

Who should skip: someone mixing these with 1/12 human figures and expecting the sizes to make sense together. Hiya lists Basic as mostly non-scale, so a 7-inch monster and a 6-inch person aren't in proportion to each other. They're just two figures on a shelf.

Exquisite Super 1/12: about 6 to 6.5 inches

The Super series is the 1/12 line. Our data has RoboCop from RoboCop 1 (6.5 inches, 23 joints, interchangeable heads, hands and weapons) and Luc Deveraux from Universal Soldier (6.2 inches, fabric combat suit, interchangeable hands, an SMG, a pistol, grenades, a headset, a baton and a life meter). The TV Negan 1:12 listing (6.25 inches, real cloth clothing, a knife, a pipe, a bat, four interchangeable hands and a stand) is the same size class, even though its title doesn't say Super.

Who it suits: someone who already collects 6-inch figures and wants cloth outfits and a full accessory box. Who should skip: someone with one small shelf. A 1/12 figure with a stand takes a real footprint.

Exquisite and Stylist Series

The Kong: Skull Island Kong Exquisite Series listing is 6 inches with 21 joints, a roaring head, interchangeable hands and a tree trunk. The Stylist Series listings in our data are PVC: a Godzilla figure, a Shimo statue and a Scar King statue. A PVC statue holds one pose. If that's the look you want, our statues page compares makers by height and base.

Joint counts: what the numbers say

Articulation means how many points a figure can move at. Hiya listings state it more often than most, so it's worth reading. In our data the counts run like this:

The Walker King at the top of the list surprised me. It's a 4.2-inch figure with more listed joints than the 7-inch monsters. Small doesn't mean stiff. On the other end, Mothra's 11 joints make sense for a figure that comes with a flying display base. Wings don't need knees.

A joint count is a number, not a promise of how a figure poses. But between two figures you like equally, the higher count usually means more ways to stand it on the shelf.

Battle-damaged, translucent and version names

Hiya sells several versions of the same character, and the version name is the only thing that tells them apart in a title. Our data has a regular Godzilla and a translucent Godzilla (2014), a regular King Ghidorah and a Battle Damaged Version, a Heat Ray Godzilla Hokkaido Ver. and an Evolved Ver., and three Kong listings with different accessories: one with a battle axe, one with the B.E.A.S.T. Glove and three expressions, and the EBG0241 with a battle-damaged Mechagodzilla head.

The ED-209 and the AVP Alien Queen are also listed as battle damaged. That means paint and sculpt made to look worn. It's a look, not a defect, and the listing says so up front.

If you're buying for someone who already collects a line, send them the version name before you buy, not the character name. A text that says "the Kong one" covers three Exquisite Basic listings in our data alone.

How to pick a Hiya Toys figure

My one opinion for this page: if you're mixing Hiya series on one shelf, match the inches, not the series name. Hiya's own site says Basic is mostly non-scale while Mini and Super are 1/18 and 1/12, so the series name doesn't promise two figures will stand right together. The inches on the listing do.

Here's the checklist I'd hand a neighbor:

  1. Height. Most Hiya listings in our data state it. Use it.
  2. Series. Mini, Basic or Super. That's size class and box contents.
  3. Joints. From 11 on Mothra to 38 on The Walking Dead: Dead City The Walker King. More joints, more poses.
  4. Accessories. Read the list. A stand isn't always included.
  5. Age. Some listings state 15+ or 18+. Respect it.
  6. Exclusive label. PREVIEWS Exclusive is a release channel, not a size.

Marisol caught me reading two listings side by side once. "1:18 and 1:12 are both fractions," she said. "The bigger number on the bottom is the smaller figure. That's not opinion, that's arithmetic." I wrote it on the shelf edge. In pencil. She noticed.

Building a shelf of one series

Hiya's Mini listings make it easy to build a whole cast in one size. The Alien, Aliens, Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection listings in our data run 4 to 5.3 inches, close enough to stand in a row. If you want one row that reads as a set, stay inside one series and one film's listings, and check the heights on each before you add the next.

The monsters work the other way. One 7-inch Godzilla doesn't need a cast. It needs elbow room on both sides.

Window boxes and packaging

Several Hiya listings in our data say "window box". That's a box with a clear front, so the figure shows without opening it. If you keep figures boxed, a window box is the one to look for. I keep most of mine open. The boxes go flat into a bin under the couch, and the bin has a label on it in Marisol's handwriting, which is the only reason I can find anything in it.

Where to buy Hiya Toys

This page links to Hiya listings on Amazon US. Read the seller line on each one. Hiya's site says it has a US warehouse that ships domestically, and Amazon sellers vary by listing, so delivery times vary too. If a listing is marked as an exclusive, it may come from a specific seller, so read before you count on a delivery date.

If you're shopping across makers in the same size classes, our figures section has pages for NECA, Mezco and Super7, which also show up a lot in film and horror lines. For 6-inch figures from a single line, our Marvel Legends list sorts listings by what each title says about size.

Small parts

Check the age label on the listing. Toys with small parts are a choking hazard for children under 3. Hiya figures come with blasters, spare hands and stands that are small enough to go missing in a carpet, so keep them on a tray and away from young kids.

Hiya Toys facts we could confirm

Hiya's own site says the company was established in 2009 and makes collectible action figures, and it lists three series: Exquisite Basic, Exquisite Mini and Exquisite Super, with Mini at 1/18 and Super at 1/12. That's the part we could confirm from the maker. We leave out anything we couldn't.

Mini, Basic or Super. Read the inches, then find the gap on the shelf.

Questions about Hiya Toys

Are Hiya Toys figures good?

We don't grade makers. What the listings show: most Hiya Toys figures in our data state a height, a series name and often the joint count and accessories, which is more than a lot of figure listings give you. Several carry an age of 15+ or 18+. Read those numbers against your shelf and the person you're buying for, and decide from there.

What scale are Hiya Toys figures?

Hiya's own site lists Exquisite Mini as 1/18 scale and Exquisite Super as 1/12 scale. Exquisite Basic is mostly listed as non-scale, with some 1/12 figures. In our Amazon US data, Mini figures run about 4 to 5.3 inches, Super figures about 6.2 to 6.5 inches, and the Basic monster figures about 6 to 7.1 inches.

What does PREVIEWS Exclusive mean on a Hiya Toys listing?

It's a label printed on the listing title or box, and several Hiya figures in our data carry it. It tells you the figure was released as an exclusive through that channel. It doesn't change the size, joints or accessories, which are listed separately. We don't treat it as a sign of value, and neither should a gift buyer.

What's the difference between Exquisite Mini and Exquisite Basic?

Size and scale. Hiya's site lists Exquisite Mini at 1/18, and the Mini figures in our data run about 4 to 5.3 inches, with one 7-inch Alien Queen. Exquisite Basic is mostly non-scale and holds the larger monster figures, about 6 to 7.1 inches in our listings, often with swap hands, heads or effect parts. Mini builds a cast; Basic gives you a centerpiece.

Are Hiya Toys figures for kids?

Some Hiya listings state 15+ or 18+, and most don't state an age at all. Read the age on the listing and the title before buying for a younger collector, and keep small accessories like blasters and spare hands away from young children.
